BRIEF
Circular as an Island is a two-part system of analyzing and monitoring resources in contexts affected by sea-level rise.
Constantly changing environmental conditions make dynamism one of the most important features of the project. The use of advanced computational tools helps cater to the reiterative nature of this analysis, bringing in a dynamic approach to visualize changes in the environment in real-time.
The project aims to evaluate two possible redistributions of the resources affected by the rising sea level. In the first scenario, the vulnerable resources are redistributed according to the proximity of the safest quadrants. Whereas in the second scenario, the resources are reallocated to the quadrants with the highest degree of salvation. Finally, after evaluating the iterations, the best two for each scenario are chosen.
PROJECT WORKFLOW
The project uses the data compiled during the continuous analysis stage to develop informed development protocols for the island, looking into intelligent incremental design scenarios to mitigate sea-level rise and maximize a positive outcome for the island’s inhabitants. For this, the project, using an algorithm, first discretizes the island into clusters, after which the algorithm looks into the current displacement of resources classifying it into these clusters and how vulnerable the clusters are to sea-level rise. The vulnerability is assessed by taking into account areas affected by sea-level rise according to a projected timeline.
