FORTALEZA

The city of Fortaleza is one of the fastest growing cities in Brasil. Fortaleza is the 5th largest city in Brasil and has a population growth rate of %14,3 in 10 years. It is a big tourist destination with its 25 kilometers of urban beaches and big shopping centers.

PINTO MARTINS-FORTALEZA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

Pinto Martins Fortaleza International Airport has a passenger capacity of 6,2 million and it has reached to 5.9 million in 2013. The airport is located in a dense urban condition where the growing city surrounds the periphery of the existing airport.

SMART STREET PROTOTYPE

Due to its scale, the airport has a great potential to be regenerated in an urban scale. The program of the new site is a Smart Street Prototype, which has a typological connection to the existing program and surroundings of the site. The idea is to create a digital surface where pedestrian and vehicular activity occur spontaneously without being interrupted from each other.

The idea is to create a flexible surface for both cars and pedestrians can occupy. The undulating rooftops , which are connected through pedestrian bridges, can allow pedestrians to move in  another layer of  landscape of buildings. The undulating building forms emerges as a secondary membrane between the network of smart streets.
