The idea for the project is to design a tool for analyzing objective (visible infrastructure) and subjective (invisible infrastructure) data which allows us to analyze the behavior of the city. The analysis will help find new relationship between the city infrastructure and other influencing elements, generating a new dialogue. The process is applied in relation to commerce for the city of Barcelona. The area selected is 2kmx2km in one of the most important intersections of the city where a variety of commercial activity exists. The different commerce for the selected area is defined which is the objective (visible) data. Then analysis of different products sold in a P2P on-line market is investigated which is the subjective (invisible) data.
The commercial activity and products are described and categorized in touristic, cheap, expensive, popular, daily and specific according to city terminology. The data is collected from open street maps, tripadvisor and twitter to define the terminologies. The data is overlaid with the empty shops which are for rent in the selected area. An interface is developed by mapping all the categories which allows citizen to make decision to sell their products. The interface “The City Translator” is an interactive map to help citizens find the best place to sell their products where the details of price, size and categories for rented shops is displayed on selection.
