The role of the citizen in the city
After watching Neom and Hyper-reality videos in the seminar, we realized how the active citizens were absent and somehow lost in the system. So we ask ourselves, what is the role of the citizen in the city? How can a citizen actively change norms set upon the city dynamics, such as the notion of time and space for each activity?
Intrinsic Self-City aims to help us visualize how a 24 hour responsive city could look like.
How?
To create this dynamic framework, we need to look at the system as a 3 dimensional object where people time and space will be strongly correlated. This will create flexible people, flexible time and flexible space.
To make them flexible, we suggest to break this notion of time and space in a 24hour span.
What are the tools needed?
DATA
Citizens will be carrying a chip embedded in an accessory to collect their data. The chip will be collecting traditional data such as location and movement and also the human data such as brain activity, mood, health status, etc…
THE CAPSULE
Our traditional cities, with its traditional data collection system and algorithm imbedded in our smart phones, predict and dictate us what to do on daily basis, like Amazon and Google Maps for example.
But Intrinsic Self-City tries to create a different city culture through technology, not just looking at it from pure functional point of view, but what drives culture through human needs, creating the human pattern. The capsule, which is the system of data collection in this project, will act as an intermediate between the city and the people and between the people and their cities, using the data to customize the needs of each individual.
The global citizen is at the center of our system providing data to the digital cloud. This collected data will merge with the personal needs and activities of the citizens and make the physical layer adaptive, which is the city.
How is the city adapting to me?
The animation below shows the demand to use a library from different users of the capsule, at different times during the day. The systems allocates the nearest library according to the users geolocation and opens the library to meet the users needs.
Moments
Below, you would see three different moments in three different scales: the individual, the citizens as a group and the city. The citizen is shaping its city according to its needs and the city becomes a living organism.
THE INDIVIDUAL
The human data of the capsule is our guide, tracking your biorhythm. The environment adapts to your biological state and the city responds.
THE CITIZENS AS A GROUP
The city is in tune with its citizens, understanding and provide for those who need a quite space in a busy and loud city.
THE CITY
The city infrastructure changes by detecting the frustration of citizens stuck in traffic, by mirroring an equal number of vehicles upside down to fast forward the traffic flow.
