Serpentine Gallery Pavilion 2005 Álvaro Siza and Eduardo Souto de Moura

The structure featured a large, column-free wooden canopy based on a simple rectangular grid, which was distorted to create an undulating form, altering the grid to create a more varied form, the canopy was built from a series of interlocking timber beam.

Decompose the logic of the pavlion :

With a wide expanse of waffle structure which is also referred to as Grid Shell. In this project, the planar structure functions as a beam can be connected to un-standard connection made by five-axis CNC machine. Every 427 pieces of wood in this installation has a unique profile as the mapping results of thirty-six point resulted from computer script processing.

The main criteria of the design, and thus the main focus of this exercise, was to create the lamella shell effect from a cell components assembly modules: the first step was to create a three-dimensional shell from a two-dimensional grid plan Then, each structural piece was created through offset, intersect, loft and extrusion commands. offsetting every wooden cell, to create a more random look.

Here, list item to identify the index to follow with merge list is a crucial steps for any other further operations.

RESULT :

ITERATION TO THE SCRIPT BY USING DISTANCE TO POINT AND REMAP TO AFFECT THE ROOF FORM

2ND ITERATION TO THE SCRIPT BY ADDING RANDOM QUAD PANELS COMPONENT
