This project explores branching columns and the nature of these branches in relation to its trunk. Inspired by Gaudi’s columns and his art of simplicity, designed in complexity, we propose a bifurcating canopy for a train Station in Barcelona. By deriving concepts from cellular structures and self-affine patterns in nature, this project creates a form that not only support a roof but allows for new spatial qualities which are achieved by optimized forms of branching.
