Dani Rossello Diez // Making Future Places

Last week our guest lecturer Dani Rossello Diez, Heatherwick Studio‘s Group Leader invited as part of the IAAC Lecture Series 2018, inspired the audience with his lecture: Making Future Places.

The talk has been focused on Heatherwick Studio’s work and design process with reference to a number of past and present large scale projects in cities around the world.

Demonstrating the studio’s commitment to finding innovative design solutions and celebrating the complexities of the real world, Dani has presented the recently completed Zeitz MOCAA, a reinvention of a historic grain silo in Cape Town into a cultural institution; 1000 Trees, a 3 million sqft, mixed-use development next to Shanghai’s art district, the M50; as well as Coal Drops Yard, an exciting new retail quarter repurposed from two historic coal drops buildings and the Vessel, a centrepiece for Hudson Yards, in Manhattan’s West Side.

Dani joined Heatherwick Studio in 2016 having worked as an associate partner of the architecture practice Legorreta + Legorreta in Mexico. As Group Leader at the studio, Dani has overseen a range of projects including the Bund Finance Centre, a new mixed-use development designed in collaboration with Fosters + Partners which opened in 2017, in addition to 1000 Trees and Coal Drops Yard during stages of their delivery.

In 2015 the studio created the role of Group Leader to support the growth in scale and number of its projects. Working with Thomas Heatherwick, Group Leaders are responsible for leading all aspects of a portfolio of projects from concept development through to delivery. They are also part of the studio’s senior management group, guiding business strategy, planning and process.
