ecoLogic Studio’s META-Folly Exhibited at CCCB
The exhibition 1,000 m2 of Desire – Architecture and sexuality, which will be at CCCB Barcelona from the 25th October 2016 to the 19th March 2017, looks at the way Western society has planned, built and imagined spaces for sex from the 18th century to the present day.
With some 250 exhibits, including drawings and architectural models, art installations, audiovisuals, books and other materials, the exhibition explores the power of spaces as the driving force of desire and shows how architecture has been a tool that controls behaviour and creates gender stereotypes in our patriarchal society.
The show presents some of the projects that have subverted traditional models and advocated utopias of sexual cohabitation, or private spaces designed solely for pleasure.
The installation META-Folly by IAAC Faculty Claudia Pasquero / ecoLogic Studio, formerly commissioned by the FRAC Centre and revisiting the architectural folly type as a synthetic organism, is featured in the exhibition.
The project draws the line of a future convergence of cybernetics and environmental psychology, digital computational design and parametricism, digital craftsmanship and DIY interaction design, radical ecologic thinking and material activism.
The META-Folly argues for computational cyber-artificiality to substitute nature as reference for the development of new architectural codes; offering refuge and consolation to the emerging crowd of urban post-ecologists, META-folly gives up searching for a green Arcadia and is determined to embody an abstract / mathematical version of it.
