DESIGN CONCEPT
Cyber-Garden is a generative form, created using a differential growth algorithm. The formation emerges from the marble wall inside the pavilion and provides a growth medium for plants. The structure of the design is controlled by solar radiation analysis of the surroundings, which determines the direction of its growth.
The intervention is inspired by the intricate geometries corals form and the process of their growth, influenced by the sun and the water currents. The aim of the intervention is to introduce a natural element to the clean modernist design of the pavilion and create a juxtaposition between the emphasis of rectangular forms and horizontal and vertical lines, typical for the Modernist movement, and the fluid shapes, formed through iterative design.
INTERVENTION LOCATION
The location, chosen for the intervention, is the interior marble wall of the Barcelona Pavilion.
The aim is to contrast the Mies van der Rohe’s use of materials and emphasis on rectangular forms with a fluid shape that provides a growth medium for plants, thus breaking the rigidity of the modernist design.
