STREET LIBRARY PAVILLION, BULGARIA
Nature inspired this stunning street library in Bulgaria, but it was computers that made the design possible. A team of young architects and designers created Rapana, the first street library in the city of Varna, using parametric design tools Rhinoceros and Grasshopper. The Rapana street library is built from 240 CNC-milled timber pieces fitted together into a curvaceous pavilion that provides shade, seating, and room for 1,500 books.

GRASSHOPPER DEFINITION
I started by creating the circular base and the structure center line.
From this point I made an offset and duplicated the curve and began to draw the horizontal line. With the command “Polar Array” I completed the semi circle. To be able to start the extrusion of the structure it was necessary to divide the curve and make a new offset in each segment.
I made another offset so I could be able to extrude the lines. But to do the horizontal structure was necessary to divide the curves and use the command “Interpolate” after this it was possible to join the surfaces with the command “Caps Holes” I completed the design.
