Temporary support systems for 3D printing Cantilevers

Abstract

The research demonstrates the temporary structures can be used while 3d printing to support cantilevers or arched structures in order to hold the components in place until its sufficiently advanced to support itself. This usage is specifically called support structures during the construction process. The objective of the study is to explore printability for complex structure morphologies in architectural components with the aid of different support systems, wood or printed supports. Digital simulations and physical tests to be conducted for estimating the structural performance after removing the supports to assure a safe build-up without collapsing.
