Economic activities in Barcelona
As Barcelona is a very economically developed city, the commerce is scattered all over its districts. The aim of that research is to identify which district includes more economic activities. The city is divided into 10 areas. The data that was used in that research (Open data bcn) consists of all commerce as restaurants, shopping malls, markets, museums, cinemas, theaters, pharmacies, etc. The areas were categorized by the number of economic activities that they have.
Barcelona districts by economic activities
every commercial point by districts
As it was revealed, (not surprising) the most economically active district is a city center – Eixample with more than 13 000 commercial points. However, the next one is not so obvious. Sarria-Sant-Gervasi is more active than Ciutat Vella, that is an old city and a popular tourist destination. In addition, we also have to take into consideration that the area of each district is not the same.
