Following a basic analysis of Zona Franca to know potential ability to develop different directions and marge in Barcelona which will be as a new identity to attract tourists and citizens. To create a new flow of people and high efficient automatical logistics.

FUTURE ZONA FRANCA

Although the smart city and the hyper-connected city is good to look forward, what kind of identity as a new landmark in Zona Franca? This is we want to focus to know. People will change roles to understand the environment and whether  Zona Franca will break the wall to permeate technologies to Barcelona and as a start point to change the rules or not?

 

 

Analysis of Zona Franca

Zona Franca is a free trade zone with an area of about 6 square kilometers, located within the city of Barcelona – between the port and the surrounding highway. Considering the daily flow of people in Zona Franca and the area around it, our task was to propose a design solution that will respond to both: current problems and a possible scenario for its future development.

 

 

According to our findings, there are three main groups of users of the space: visitors, workers, and people who are passing by or walking around the area. Based on the data we gathered, we were able to simulate a possible distribution of people during a week day.

 

We looked into possible ways to enter Zona Franca in terms of modes of transportation, as well as main entering points.

 

 

In each gata of Zona Franca, it has different situations. Based on the research, we can state that it is easy to access Zona Franca either by metro, by bus or by car, however entering the site on foot or on the bicycle is almost impossible due to lack of proper infrastructure. We also identified five main nodes which are the entrances to the Zona Franca area.

 

 

And what hopefully can happen in general?

And in the future, the industry will not be as a boundary to block city and people, especially as a part of the smart city, as an open space to visit and shopping flexibly. Super link future of the city and future of the industry.

From basic research, what else does happen in general? Compared with commuting, shopping, and recreation site, it is fewer people to go there because of functions such as business and trading for goods.

PROPOSAL

With automatical technologies to transfer goods, how to form a new layer as a social, work, communication platform to link each area of Zona Franca?

In the social layer, there are also offices with mixing functions ( education, exhibitions, future lab, fitness, open kitchen and market, offices)to be easier to through and stay.

In visual collages, we hope in social layers to form new data and flow of people that it will build a higher efficient trading logistic and flexible spaces to enjoy a new-century open space.

 

 

 

Zona Franca will not as an industrial site to block city growing, however, in a smart and database city, people will change roles to know the industry. And maybe it will be …
