BRIEF
The objective of the assignment was to create an interactive pavilion which utilizes physics. Forces parametrically defined in Kangaroo are applied to the main installation in order to simulate and understand it’s physical behavior in real time.
Taking influence from Frei Otto, the installation is two suspended hyperbolic nets, creating a large shaded hammock bed. Located on the rooftop of Iaac, this installation, in theory, would be ideal for any student needing a moment to relax in the Barcelona sun.
PROTOCOL
- Begin with a square planar surface with 4 points and define these in Grasshopper
- Defining your mesh, anchor the edges and points accordingly.
- Apply your forces, loads and tensile strength.
- Create a bouncy solver in order to simulate the behavior.
- Test and manipulate the parameters of your solver and forces to simulate the desired effect, in this case, fabric
