FORCES OF NATURE

Tensile Study

The main objective of the video with live interaction of the tensile structure was to understand the morphing of the surface areas under the Kangaroo behaviors applied. Viewing the structure from different perspective, allows for a clear understanding of how the structure performs under certain parameters.

BASE GEOMETRY

The base geometry was created on grasshopper using a simple mesh surface to fully understand the implications of the kangaroo behaviours. When the behaviours are applied to the mesh surface, it functions as a tensile structure.

BEHAVIOURS APPLIED

Edge Length – To study the behaviour of the tensile structure under tension applied on the surface area

Smooth – To study the behaviour of the tensile structure when smoothing is applied to the surface area

Pressure – To study the behaviour of the tensile structure when it is inflated

Wind – To study the behaviour of the tensile structure when a wind load is applied in the X direction

Length – To study the behaviour of the openings on the boundary when tension is applied

Anchor – To study the behaviour of the tensile structure when anchor points are placed randomly along rods

Anchor – To study the behaviour of the tensile structure when the rods’ lengths are changed

DATA VISUALIZATION

The focus of this data visualization was to understand the morphing on the surface area between the original position of the tensile structure and the structure when the Kangaroo behaviours are applied to it

FORM FINDING CATALOG

During the parametric design process, we were then requested to create a form finding catalog to understand the process of behavioral exploration of the tensile structure.
