Tree Pavilion
About the project
A catenary arch is one that follows an inverted catenary curve. In order to obtain it, a force is applied to pull it down, such as gravity. In grasshopper we are able to simulate this pull through the use of Kangaroo plugin and interactive goal components. By setting several anchor points we are able to create a vault-like shape that can adapt to its surrounding. For this assignment the goal is to create an installation in the rooftop of IAAC building in Barcelona.
Design explorations
Using rhino + grasshopper made it easy to interact and play around with many possibilities in terms of loads, anchor points, and stress levels on the mesh. Six iterations were created from which one was chosen as the final installation.
Final geometry
The final pavilion includes anchor points for the structure, the structure, a sitting area, and a mesh to protect users from environmental factors.
