From Computation to Composition – Hyperbolic Perturbations and Perforations

REACTIVE WALL is a study of hyperboloid arrays and perforation along a surface, this exploration will aim to create a series of iterations that perform under its context of cold temperatures, wind, and frequent precipitation. By using Finland’s southern city of Helsinki as an analysis of weather patterns. An extraction of elements such as sun angles, rain, and wind flow will allow performances to be extrapolated from geometry findingThe main objective is to optimize the amount of sunlight entering the building during the summer and winter months while using the smallest openings to block.

SITE

Helsinki has a baltic climate that is moderately continental.

The city experiences winters with an average temperature of -4.7 C*.

Summers are mild with an average temperature of 17 C*.
