HEMPCRETE MATERIAL EXPERIMENT
Hempcrete is a bio-composite made of the inner woody core of the hemp plant mixed with a lime-based binder. The hemp core or “Shiv” has a high silica content which allows it to bind well with lime. This property is unique to hemp among all natural fibers.(1) This experiment is focused on hempcrete as a building material and experimented on 3 different materials to compare the structural resistance.
Hemp Preparation
- Separating hemp plant into hurds (shivs) and fibers for different usages.
- Hurd sizes that the experiment use is between 3-20 mm. Ropes and insulants can be produced from hemp fibers. ( Not in this Experiment)
