The concept of the lamp was inspired by the veins of a leaf in nature. We initially begin the design by increasing the depth of the principal veins and lowering the depth of the more intricate netted veins in order for them to appear above the principal veins. However, upon completion of the first trial we noticed that the netted veins should in fact be subtracted from the solid surface piece at varied depths. This allowed us to create higher densities of light coming through the lamp. Finally, by studying the veins, we were able to produce a complex pattern characterized by organic forms.
