TS.2A – Tool Seminar
Digital Tools
Visual Programming, Unity + Max/MSP
Faculty: Martina Menegon
Since the 90s artists have been working with computer games as material and as medium of their artistic practices. In recent years, artists focus particularly on the medium’s inherent qualities, treating CGI like a body, exposing its construction. They create virtual worlds and universes that embrace the materiality of CGI and are full of imperfections.
The seminar analyses the artistic and aesthetic potential of the virtual with an overview to the contemporary art scene of CG experimentalism and explores Virtual Reality as an artistic medium with a practical introduction to experimental 3D and Virtual Reality design using Unity3D, a free game engine software for realtime 3D graphic visualisation, and low-budget 3D scanning technologies.
