“The idea oscillates between stability and minimalism”
The project began with the investigation of the various types of possibilities in wooden joineries. It was amusing to discover the potential of 3mm thick plywood and the innumerable permutations possible, aided by a laser machine.
The skeleton is a multiple of a unit that evolves with a dynamic twist as it rises, keeping the connections to a minimum. The prototype is a five member structure of varying lengths which blooms in the centre and tapers at the end. Each member is an assembly of three pieces that provide rigidity and strength.
The joineries are the combination of interlocking, clipping, stacking and the tongue & groove arrangement.
The elegance of the structure is defined by its simplicity in form and complexity of the connecting members.
