Parametric Skins / The Broad
Architect: Diller Scofidio + Renfro Location: Los Angeles, CA, USA Date: 2015 The Broad’s façade is a honeycomb-like porous structure. The façade is self-supporting, therefore, allowing support free spaces on the inside. It also allows for the diffused light at the interior throughout the day. The main criterium for my design was to create a script that would be able to take any surface and any grid type, and it would create “the Broad” paneling. I also wanted to add a few custom controls where the user could choose the vector of the openings, as well as define an attractor that would influence the overall sizes of the openings in the paneling.
