Design optimization of a mass timber auditorium located in Portland, Oregon. The orientation and fenestration are crucial to achieve every conservation in this project. The courting glass incorporates shading device elements to mitigate solar gains during Summer and maximizes the thermal gains in Winter, reducing the use of energy for heating.
The envelope has continuous insulation throughout with superior thermal resistance values without compromising the interior comfort with excessive internal heat gains. The climate conditions in this region are ideal for the integration of extensive green roofs to mitigate the heat island effect of cities, the design incorporates local vegetation species to optimize water consumption.
Portland Auditorium is a project of IAAC, Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia developed at MMTD in 2021/2022 by student Julio Ramirez. Faculty: Patrick Spencer Course: Techniques II
