RS.II – Research Studio
SELF SUFFICIENT BUILDING
Senior Faculty: Enric Ruiz-Geli, Mireia Luzárraga
Self sufficiency is about consuming just the resources you are able to produce, turning into zero our echological footprint, or the surface of land that each one needs to live. This scenario is close to the statements that we need to achieve for the 2020 agenda. At the RSII self-sufficiency will be wider concept. Not only we will apply this term when speaking about energy, but also speaking about other issues like water, food, economy, society… As architects, our role in this new concept of echologie(s) goes beyond buildings, materials, light, space or shape. Our approach to this new way of thinking must be holistic, empha-sizing the importance of the wholes, and the interdependance of its parts. Therefore, for us, architecture is about this complex combination of elements and their relations.
At the RSII we will read and learn from the people that are already talking about this holistic way of thinking (Rifkin, Braunghart, Mc Donnou-gh, Latour…). We will study the organisation and layouts of pi-lot projects in terms of Campuses from the past ones to the most innovative ones (Taliesin West, Arcosanti, MIT, Harvard, Google Headqarters…) and we will even visit some of them in our field trip.
Finally we will develop a Project of a Campus.
