W3 – Seminar Workshop – Morphogenetic Fluid Dynamics (Term1)
Faculty: Angelos Chronis

Description
The workshop will introduce the concepts of performance-driven morphogenetic design and shape optimisation. Using as a case study the problem of natural ventilation of a facade, the workshop will delve into the fundamental concepts of optimisation, such as problem definition, design parameters specification, simulation and design space exploration. We will use computational fluid dynamics (CFD) for simulations and we will explore different tools and strategies for optimisation, such as genetic algorithms and neural networks.

Software
Rhino and Grasshopper will be used for parametric modelling and interfaces to CFD simulation engines, such as Butterfly and RhinoCFD will be used for simulation.

Required skills
Parametric modelling is required but no prior knowledge of CFD simulations is needed.
