In the second phase of Digital Fabrication class, it is aimed to develop an integrated approach to design and production while exploring one of the manufacturing processes. During the process of “Weaving the Pattern” visual filter panel project, the elements from translucent and white polypropylene material is fabricated by laser cutting.
The pattern of the panel is inspired by the undulating steel facade of Tom Heatherwick’s Guy’s Hospital project. In order to get varying degrees and transitions in opacity levels in the space divider panel, the horizontal layers are in wavy forms. Since the function of the panel requires two-sided usade, the vertical ribbons are installed to both faces.
