Fabrication Process: Laser Cutting (Soak Bending)
Material Used: Plywood
Time Taken: 40mins – Machine Time
This lamp is built with intentions of bending one whole board of plywood to produce the resulting light pattern, rather than cut several layers of wood. The intent was to have different layers of different lengths and widths all stacked up on top of each other, also at different joint position, for an interesting light patten. The attempt to achieve this result by bending just one board of wood, proved not only challenging, but problematic to say the least.
The fact that the several layers are attached to one another at different locations in one single board and not sharing several attachments, affects its balance and strength.
The lamp also proved too weak to hold the several layers as intended so the layers had to be reduced in order for it to not crack at the attachments.
